Summary

One house。 Nine strangers。 Ten days that will change everything 。 。 。

The retreat at health-and-wellness resort Tranquillum House promises total transformation。

Nine stressed city dwellers are keen to drop their literal and mental baggage, and absorb the meditative ambience while enjoying their hot stone massages。

Miles from anywhere, without cars or phones, they have no way to reach the outside world。 Just time to think about themselves, and get to know each other。

Watching over them is the resort's director, a woman on a mission。 But quite a different one from any the guests might have imagined。

For behind the retreat's glamorous facade lies a dark agenda。

These nine perfect strangers have no idea what's about to hit them 。 。 。

I really did not like this book。

I enjoy this author for a fun escape。 Believable? Not always but fun。 I loved how she brought in fears of authors through the voice of Frances。 I wondered if the author faced similar questions about he own writing。

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down it had fun twists。 But then I felt like it had a weird disappointing ending。 I felt like it had great non predictable fun twists and then back to what author expected her readers would like to hear vs a continuation of the fun twisty story。

3。5。 Loved the characters。 Although the story got a little far fetched, I enjoyed the premise。 Looking forward to watching this on Hulu。

Made it through half the chapters。 It was like watching a soap opera of the worlds most boring people。 It was tagged as a thriller??? I’m all for people get self help but good grief, I don’t want to read a minute to minute playbook。

A fun summer read

Slow start, but tremendous pay off in the end! Great characters and a very well played out story。

What a crazy book。 Moriarty does not disappoint。 I can’t wait to watch the tv show。 I had to research the characters a few times because I kept getting confused, but since the book is so long, you will get to know these characters like they are your friends and relatives。 Knowing that Nicole Kidman plays the lead made it even better to imagine the story and characters because she is so good at playing evil or scary parts。What I love is that, while the retreat ends up being psychotic, it accompli What a crazy book。 Moriarty does not disappoint。 I can’t wait to watch the tv show。 I had to research the characters a few times because I kept getting confused, but since the book is so long, you will get to know these characters like they are your friends and relatives。 Knowing that Nicole Kidman plays the lead made it even better to imagine the story and characters because she is so good at playing evil or scary parts。What I love is that, while the retreat ends up being psychotic, it accomplishes it’s purpose and allows forgiveness, growth, healing in relationships, new love… and none of the heartaches are told from the start, so good suspense。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book it had me hooked from the very first page, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next。 The characters where all great and I found I could relate to them。 Some even reminded me of people I know。 A group of nine people all sign up for a health resort in order to change their lives for various reasons。 Only this health resort is a little different then most and prides themselves on their alternative health plan and it's successes。 Masha the Director of the I really enjoyed this book it had me hooked from the very first page, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next。 The characters where all great and I found I could relate to them。 Some even reminded me of people I know。 A group of nine people all sign up for a health resort in order to change their lives for various reasons。 Only this health resort is a little different then most and prides themselves on their alternative health plan and it's successes。 Masha the Director of the resort is obsessed with Health and will do almost anything to see her clients succeed in their health journey。I can't wait to watch the mini series that will be released soon featuring Nicole Kidman as Masha。 。。。more

Liked it。 Looking forward to series。

DNF。 Book expired on my Libby app without me noticing because I just couldn’t get through it。 Not terrible, just not exciting at all。 Maybe a ball drops at the end? Pumped for the show however!

Kind of disappointed with this one :/It just fell flat for me, the ending was a bit rushed and it felt anticlimactic。 Tbh I’m not sure what “the big twist” everyone talks about is supposed to be。Other than that, I liked the dynamics between most characters, and I have to admit that even though at the end I was disappointed, I did enjoy the journey and was, at some points, very invested in the story。(Also, I loved the almost breaking of the fourth wall that happened every now and then)

Honestly I struggled to rate this, I kind of hated this book but also loved every minute of reading it。

I tried really hard to like this one。 It was my third attempt at one of her books, and they all feel the same to me。 Start off good, then get too complicated and try too hard later on。 It had so much potential for me, but I just felt confused and underwhelmed the whole time。 It lacked good cliffhangers, and the one twist was very predictable。 I liked the characters and wish there was more depth to each of them。 The final ending confused me, and I had to read it a few times to understand what it I tried really hard to like this one。 It was my third attempt at one of her books, and they all feel the same to me。 Start off good, then get too complicated and try too hard later on。 It had so much potential for me, but I just felt confused and underwhelmed the whole time。 It lacked good cliffhangers, and the one twist was very predictable。 I liked the characters and wish there was more depth to each of them。 The final ending confused me, and I had to read it a few times to understand what it meant。 Shrug。 。。。more

One of the best books I’ve read in a really long time。

Obviously they were being drugged but not necessarily the way I expected。 It was not super climactic and it moved slowly but also quickly。 The major moments did not actually feel like pivotal scenes and the ending was rushed。 So much build up for a not very exciting climax。

I liked most of the characters in this book, and I thought that the writing style (as always) was sublime。 The story had me for the first half, as the idea of a wellness retreat sounded fun and mysterious, but after the “big twist” in the middle, the narrative started to drag a little for me。

A three star read with a four star ending。 I definitely had a fun time reading this and would recommend。 Three stars for the sad parts - sorry, I’m a softie。 I’m looking in to other books by this author。 So far, I’ve enjoyed two out of two!

Looking back on it, I wonder why I was so enraptured by this book, because I feel like nothing really happened in it, but that’s the beauty of it。 For the majority of the novel the guests are sitting around together not interacting or focusing solely on themselves, but while this is happening we get to experience what they’re thinking and what led them to this place (the resort)。 It was so interesting to get into the minds of nine perfect strangers and see how they all connect with and learn to Looking back on it, I wonder why I was so enraptured by this book, because I feel like nothing really happened in it, but that’s the beauty of it。 For the majority of the novel the guests are sitting around together not interacting or focusing solely on themselves, but while this is happening we get to experience what they’re thinking and what led them to this place (the resort)。 It was so interesting to get into the minds of nine perfect strangers and see how they all connect with and learn to support each other, though they barely know each other past their trauma。 I’m curious to see how this will be translated to the screen, since a lot of the plot happens inside the minds of the main characters。 。。。more

Very engaging story that kept me interested in what could possibly happen next? The character development was good enough to keep me interested in every one。 She wrapped up things nicely in the end。 She included the idea of psychotherapy using LSD and psilocybin。 Since this is just grabbing hold in the real world, it was an interesting twist to the story。 Easy read。

a book about nothing with no point ????

Nine people gather at a remote health resort。 Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves。 Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work。 But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be。Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, Nine people gather at a remote health resort。 Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves。 Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work。 But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be。Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut。 She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests。 Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all。 But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House。 Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer---or should she run while she still can? It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question。My Thoughts: As Nine Perfect Strangers gather to meditate and deal with their emotional and physical stresses, this reader felt that nothing good could come of this little retreat。 After all, none of the guests really know the resort owner/director, and that could be their biggest mistake。Each guest is introduced to the reader with some back story, and we are hoping for good things, in spite of our misgivings。My favorite character was Frances, an author, whose last book was rejected, and her love life has definitely gone bad。 She will probably be seeking for something she won’t find here。Masha had so many red flags swirling around her, and the guests did wonder。 But perhaps what they see is just the authority she carries with her。Throughout the tale, we come to know more about each character, but less about Masha, and by the end, we wish they had all done more “due diligence。” A twisted story that left me with more questions than answers, this one earned 4。5 stars。 。。。more
